Cabela's Grand Slam: North American 29

Post by acrinym »

So,
I'm interested in editing GrandSlam. But, I haven't been able to figure out how to edit it's z3d files or to figure out how the text displayed in game is figured out.
I found the in-game font, easily. However, the strings which say what's displayed, are nowhere to be found.

Dragon Unpacker 5.7.0 (which has not been updated in a long time) works to unpack the .za files.

I would like to start a modding community to edit this game and have funds to do it.

Anybody interested?

Looks like there are 3d models and "how to use this file in-game" files.
Nothing like an XML file to describe how to display anything.

I found the strings to display what text is displayed, and the .za files are simply "zip archives".
What I don't know however, is how to repack them. That would be very nice. I have editing to do :D

I want to add additional animals to hunt and new weapons to the game.
Also, change the sounds to be more realistic, and make it more realistic in general.

This is kind of an old game, but I really love it.

What would be even cooler is if the Map editor was changed, and the ability to edit the original maps was implemented.

If the za files are zip archives I don't see any problems with repacking them (any archiving software), or are you referring to other files?

They appear to be zip files, since I can unzip them, but I tried to edit a file and re-zip it, and 7-zip wouldn't do it.
