God of war (PS2 Version) script unpacking .PAK missing files?

Post by TjVatio »

i started god of war project, doing some translation (not full), audio-video replace with other language, everything good, i used this script http://zenhax.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3451&hilit=god+of+war
and extracted files without problem, but it missed audio files (also SFX), specific the first line when you start a new game "The gods of Olympus have abandoned me" doesnt exist this file, i listened every file around 900+ (VAG-VPK-PSS), maybe inside of WAD file? possible?

I dont want to rip this audio, i want to replace with other audio file language.

God of war SCUS-973.99

Sequency of files in-game
TIT1E1_2.VPK Menu music
TIT1Q1_2.vpk background music
????????????? (kratos quote)
SEMO01.PSS First video.

Thanks for all great people!!!

You can use the Xpert tool with the God of War plugin to unpack properly the PAK file and to rebuild it.

Hi TjVlatio, you can try this tool https://drive.google.com/file/d/15-8W9J ... p=drivesdk

I got better results with this tool, both on the DVD iso 9 and on the DVD5

Sorry for the big bump and late response, unfortunately i didn't find this specific audio file with this program :shame: :(
but its weird because in the muti europe version, loads this audio quote on every respective language, so the question is, where is it?

Maybe in a multi-channel audio file that I overlooked?

I hope someday someone finds it to fully edit this game!

Hi @TjVlatio, the GOW European version contains the audio files built in .pss cutscenes, each .pss cutscene contains 5 audio tracks, 1 audio for each language, you can use the the PSS Plex to extract the audio files from the . pss cutscenes. The others lang audios are in the VAG files, they are renamed as VAG1, VAG2, VAG3 and so on. The PSS Plex allows multiplex an wav audio track with a mpeg video, e.g: a dubbed audio. The Psound software allows you to listen the speechs in VAG files. The GodofWar Browser software by Mogaika allows translate the text strings in the R_PERM.WAD and in R_SHELL.WAD, I recommend you to use the 1.75 version.
There is some WADs that contain audio files in SND format, use the GodofWar Browser to listen them. Maybe the speech "the gods of Olympus have abandoned me" is there.

Hey @Kratos9999!!
for some reason i didnt get notification of this... :weird:

First of all, thanks for help and keep in touch with my project (spanish into US version :) )

Yeah, i had replaced english audio to spanish audio in both .VAG and .PSS with those tools, also has edited by hand (extract and repack) R_PERM.WAD to get that msgs_en.txt file, and that was all changes i had done at that moment, also and some point i had downloaded that tool but gives me the same result as other tools, but i never realize until today and thanks of your comment, the text of menu, pause and option in-game was inside of FLP_HUD and with god of war browser you can visualize and edit them :D yay!!

So, i took your advice to work with 1.75 but when i select the R_PERM.WAD from list and FLP_HUD doesnt load :(.. otherwise i have another version (dont know which is) i launch it and boom! load correctly, let me see the font, textures, 3d models, etc. The only difference between of this version, is the cfg file and obviously the size of the .exe. the bad thing is i cant introduce especial characters for spanish like ñ ¿ ¡, but i can live with that...

And for PSound ill give it a shot when finish translate the remaining text of the game, maybe you are right and the only sound to replace is there hiding in those files :P....

Maybe you are asking why this version? and the main reason why im working on the US version is for compatibility and censorship against EUROPE version.

You are transfering spanish cutscenes to the usa version?

When you finish this , can you upload the iso somewhere? because i tried to do the same project some time ago but i didnt have the skills XD.

Because if you play the game on a emulator, the pal version (forced to 60 fps) has sound issues in the cutscenes, and i dont want to play it at 50 fps
The same with god of war 2, and the solution would be your project, spanish cutscenes and text on the usa version.

TjVlatio, you can add special glyphs in the R_PERM and R_SHELL (USA version) using this tutorial https://github.com/mogaika/god_of_war_b ... IZATION.md and the GodofWar browser, the software allows you add 256 special glyphs. So you can insert the Ñ, ¿ ¡ and all the others used by Spanish.
To edit the glyphs, you must view the game FONT in the GodofWar browser and save it as a .png file and use the Pixelformer software to create the special glyphs from the png of original FONT. So follows the tutorial in link to create the New FONT and import to the R_SHELL and R_PERM.

Hey TjVlatio, I managed to create a FONT with all special chars used by european countries. Now you can insert the Ñ, Á, à, ¿ and all the others, just follow the instructions in this link that comes with god_of_war_browser tool https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qS9XVK ... p=drivesdk and good luck. This tutorial will useful to translate the GOW to anothers language used in the Europe.

So, thanks to Kratos9999 to narrow me down where to look and find this particularly audio file, well finally i found "the file" !!!, is located in R_SHELL.WAD -> SBK_Title01.sbk -> SND_HL_A07HL02

so if you want to dub with other audio file into the US version is hidding there :P (in my case is in R_SHELLS.WAD for spanish) the problem is no tool exist to edit this kind of file, PSound allows to convert it but no to import it, repack it or reinsert it :shame: my last solution is replace this whole file and hopefully dont give me any error into the US Version. i'll post my results.

And for special characters still no luck with god of war browser, the version i have doesnt has the IMPORT GLYPH FROM FILE and the last version of github gives me error when i try to load flp_hud it show me blank page
i made some test and when the cfg file is empty, loads the labels and font viewer but no import button (unknown version), i dont know how to or maybe i missed something in the process. at the moment ive replaced words that contains ñ ¡ ¿ with synonymous...

Oh, I am glad because you have found the audio and have made progress in your project. I've edited by hand the FONT, It's a tiring job, but in the end it's worth it in the end to see it working. If you use the god_of_war_browser supplied in the link, will work for sure on your R_PERM and R_SHELL, I've TESTED successfully here. As for the audio file "the gods of olympus ..." you can try replace it using the Hxd, search the string SND_HL_A07HL02 and try to locate the beginning and end of file and select it (save the selected as a new file) and to play with the Psound to listen if the file is really the SND_HL_A07HL02. So repeat the procedure to locate the same file in the R_SHELLS, maybe work.

Little update!!
necro bump?

This weekend i had some spare time and decided to give more attention and working on to finish this project, doing text changes and edit "the famous" last audio, here are some good and bad progress...

  • Font fully working with special characters (made two version with and without). thanks again to Kratos9999 for his help!!
  • I added subtitle for that part when you has to sacrifice soldier (no audio swap, because in eur version they remove soldier replacing with some zombie-monster and the audio are groans and gibberish) someone told me the version of ps vita has these audio dubbed...?!!??

    Image

  • Some text are messed up, i have to rearrange and shrinking text, due to characters length of original usa text.

    Image

Code: Select all

e.g:
Widescreen = Pantalla ancha => Pant. ancha
Music Volume = Volumen de la musica => Vol. musica

The background texture of title text is separated and doesnt grow within text edit (i have to edit manually? tedious? some day?)

    Image

Code: Select all

e.g:
Power-up = Aumentar poder => Poder(es)

  • More text mess up

    Image
Notice how the text "Seleccionar" goes background of the other text due to spacing text length

    Code: Select all

    Maybe shrinking to => Selecc

    Image

    Code: Select all

    e.g:
    Moves = Movimientos => Golpes

    Image

    Code: Select all

    e.g:
    Items = Objetos => Items

Now im gonna fix these texts alignment based in how is displayed on the eur version. ;)

Yeah i have editing before roms and files on hxd, but in this case was not necessary, since the files are equals in size (usa-eur), the only had to do was select r_shell.wad, locate sbk_title and hit the upload button and upload the sbk from eur version previously decompressed in god_of_war_browser and voila :)

Image

To do:
  • Find this text to edit
    Image
  • Check the ps vita version for audio dub (sacrificed soldier).
  • Translate the intro text, possible?

Greetings 8-) 8-)

@Tjvlatio, you can move the "Seleccionar" string to the left, so the larger string don't goes background of the "Atrás". The newest gow_browsers allows you change the x, y pos of any string. In my language, the translation to "Select" is "Selecionar" and I was able to insert the larger translation without overpass the next string, but is a bit hard to do this, patience is the key.

The texts "CYCLONE OF CHAOS (AIR): L1 + [ ]" and the others can be edited opening the R_PERM.WAD and clicking in "Scripts Strings".
