Headerless .dat audio/unknown files

Post by ryanGDanderson »

Hi everyone,

This is my first post. I've been trying to help djneo on an NHL2K mod, and I retraced some of his steps and arrived here!

It started when I extracted the ISO with Wit, and then used aluigi's script to get quickbms to split up two files 0A and 0B into two folders full of .dat files.

Neo told me that several of them are audio files, because he got them to open and play (with low quality) in Audacity. So I retraced one of his old posts and discovered Sox, and when I tried using sox to convert them, but every time I got 'unable to read sample: unknown error."

Then I researched headerless .dat files, and saw that I could try and decipher them with a hex editor, so I downloaded HxD, and some of the files end with plain text like "e.n.g.l.i.s.h...i.f.f...f.r.e.n.c.h...i.f.f...g.e.r.m.a.n...i.f.f.." Others are just unreadable gobbledy-gook from start to finish.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated! This all started when I messaged Neo out of the blue one day because a friend showed me his NHL2K Hockey Simulator mod. I love hockey and game design, so I couldn't resist. He gave me this task, and I'd prefer that I not fail at my first job XD
