GameHouse .dat file

Post by JM555 »

So the newest "GameHouse Original Stories" games come with ".dat" archives instead of the GHPK and BGPK archives. After some trial and error, I found out they're still BGPK files, but the file extension is renamed to "*.dat".

Using QuickBMS with this script to extract all the files works, but half of the image files that were extracted were unviewable and unopenable. I tried opening from the Photos app on my computer, GIMP, Illustrator, Photoshop, but all of them couldn't open the file.

I think extracting would work if the script was modified somehow, but I was wondering if anyone can help me. I provided the link to download the file if it becomes needed

Clearly your main.dat file is corrupt like if you didn't finish to download it from bittorrent... it's full of zeroes

But all the images load fine when playing the game. It was downloaded directly from the GameHouse webpage when I clicked play.

So it's just magic :D

You provided a main.dat file of 505 Mb of which only 121 Mb are data,
Over 75% of that archive is ZERO

I think I now know why. GameHouse only downloads the data that's needed since it's still a trial version, and will download the main.dat file when the game needs the image file.

I downloaded the exact same game from Big Fish and all the files were viewable.
