Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace B3D & BAF model files.

Post by BowserSkywalkerJr »

Hi, I'm new to this community so please be patient with me if needed. I'm looking for help ripping models, both levels and objects/characters from the PC version of Star Wars: Episode 1 The Phantom Menace into a commonly used format such as .obj or .dae. This is everything I have been able to gather:
One of the game's developers shared the program used for level building called bafobi.exe. It can also be used to view and export character/object models. However, it only exports to the game's own formats.
The levels are .B3D files but these are not Blitz3D files. They appear to be compressed, but bafobi allows the user to export them uncompressed, or at least the exported file size suggests this.
The character/object files are stored as .baf in big.lab found in the installation folder, and they come out as .BAFS when ripped with game extractor (just change the extension and remove any file name spaces when importing to bafobi). These are files which combine .3DO & .MAT files from the Jedi Knight games, along with audio files. Admittedly I'm not familiar with the Jedi Knight file formats, but when I compared their 3DO files to these ones, the Phantom Menace files appear to be compressed or formatted in a different way.

I've attached three files: the first level as it is in the game files and an uncompressed/less compressed version exported using bafobi, and a .baf character model for Obi Wan Kenobi.
