Help with 3DO archives (bigfile and .big files)

Post by Rozekail »

Apologies if this isn't the right place or isn't formatted correctly. I'll try to provide as much info as possible.

I've been looking around and can't seem to find anything that will extract data from the "bigfile" in Gex on the 3DO. Well, next to nothing. 3DOResExplorer will, with varying degrees of success. But someone recently told me about QuickBMS (a name I'd not heard since trying to extract Bloodborne files) so I figured I'd give it a shot. There were several scripts referencing bigfiles, but sadly none of them yielded anything with Gex. Not surprised, they were all for other games & engines, other than Legacy of Kain Defiance, which I think uses a modified version of Gex's engine, but I digress.

I was also turned onto a site with a 3DO Gex audio rip uploaded by Infomaniac95, done by a user named NoWool, which mentions using some unknown BMS script for extraction, with a TXTH file also being created by this unknown user.

Does anyone know where this script may be found? Or who created it? Or even of any other alternate scripts that would work with 3DO bigfiles? I've done several searches, both through Google and on this site, but nothing has turned up. I'm heading a 3DO music preservation project and would like a reasonably easy-to-use method for these files, and while 3DOResExplorer DOES work (from what I can tell), it's kinda clunky and having alternatives is always good.

So, thanks in advance! Let me know if there's any more info I can provide.

There are some topics about TXTH here on zenhax regarding games on various consoles (dreamcast, ps*, xbox and so on) and mentioning vgmstream for reading them (adpcm and dvi ima).
There are also topics about "bigfile" (there are various games having "bigfile" in their filename or in the header).
Maybe try to check these various topics.
