Help with Minecraft Story Mode TTARCH2 Editing

Post by Withersick »

So, I'm wanting to edit only a few images from Minecraft Story Mode (MCSM), to mod it (mostly focusing on character and item textures). I'm able to de- and re-compile the .ttarch2 files from the game, but since ttarchext doesn't compress things, the completed .ttarch2 files are way larger than I'd expect (about 3-4 times the size). Plus, it takes longer to edit the entire thing.

I am able to use a similar method to what Luigi recommends with just putting the texture files into the archives folder, and it works pretty decently! I've tested just putting in an edited Jesse texture that I didn't have in any of the .ttarch2 files before, and it showed up properly! (At least on episode 1 in season 2. I'll do more testing later to see where it might mess up, but it works at least so far.)

With that said, though, I'd still enjoy being able to make a "patch" file that I can recompile and edit together without much hassle. If anyone knows how to get the game to register a .ttarch file as a "patch" to MCSM, please leave a reply. I have a guess that it might have something to do with the .lua files, but I haven't found a way to edit them.

Anything will help! I don't need this (there are alternatives besides making a "patch" file), but it would make editing / modding the game a lot easier to edit and swap out. I think if I leave this here, then maybe someone will have an answer and eventually be able to help me with this.
