Playing unsupported game on Android

Post by pondC »

So, today I feel like playing Final Fantasy 9 that I played long ago on Android so I download it.

Surprise not surprise, the game did not load on my phone running on Android 11,
so I try downloading it again on my old phone running on Android 9 and it works fine

Are there any workaround about this problem? I mean I can play it on my old phone but that isnt really the way it should be.

Rant: Like I understand that apps and program needs to be updated regularly but, isnt this literally a scam? I cant play the game that I paid for, and this is not the first time. (Chaos Rings Omega which died since Android 5 and doesnt seems to be playable even on the older Android version, at least that is what I remember when my Android 4.4 phone is still alive)
Not sure is this is Square_Enix's fault that they didnt make the thing playable or what but this sucks.

Hello.
Please share technical details on phone model and the issue itself.
Describe actions taken and if user-shared solutions were followed.
Clarify, whether the Android-exclusive version is required or PS emulation on Android is convenient, and if first - emulation of Android on PC. Alternatively, PS on PC.
Thanks.

Android 11 devices: Google Pixel 4a 5g >> The game just go black screen after the permission for storage was granted.
On Andriod 9 (I use Sony Xperia XZ1) and older it will unzip the files the first time the game load.

I believe that this problem is exclusively android.

1) Did you tried to toggle that permission as stated here, do that after cache and data removal, or clean install?
I turned it OFF and back ON again and for some miracle it started working. I also cleared cache after that but not sure if necessary.

2) If that doesn't work, emulation of PS on Android might be solution. There are several threads on reddit where people emulated FF9 on: duckstation, ppsspp, RetroArch, FPSE/epsxe. I also heard of Happy Chick.

3) As for both FF9 and CRO - try VMOS - Virtual Android on Android as stated here.
emulate Chaos Rings, including one method on Android itself. Recently, VMOS added support for running Android 4.x ROMs in virtual machines on modern Android devices.
Chaos Rings Omega currently do not run well in VMOS

4) Alternatively, doesn't playing (emulating) on PC is option?

FF9 does works after re-enable the permission and clearing cache.

For the CRO that is really unexpected. I though I'ld never had a chance to play it again, thanks a ton :)))))
