Magicka (Model and Texture)

Post by Doctor Loboto »

Hey all, we have here some rather common formats, but currently there's no conversion software or tools for these types of files. At root they are XNA/XNB files, and there doesn't seem to be any proper model converters for these anywhere. I was hoping someone could help me get the models and textures out of them. I have here an archive of their compressed and decompressed files, so we can have a look at them. I've searched around the internet exhaustively and there seems to be no solution yet.

I've looked at before and there's plenty of software for xnb files but there's two problems. Firstly, xnb is more of an archive than an actual file itself meaning it's up to the developer with whatever is within the xnb file. Second problem is that the files you provided are version 4 rather than version 5 which doesn't seem to be supported by any extraction tools that i've used (except the xnb bms script). Sadly i have no solution for either problem.

here is Quickbms script to convert the uncompressed texture xnb to dds. :D
Magicka_PC_XNB2dds.zip

supports dxt1 and dxt5, all mips included.
use this script only on the files ending with underscore zero like somename_0
but without having "mesh" in the name. :)

All right, using a combination of BMS scripts I've managed to get all I can out of the base XNB's. Here's an archive with pre-converted textures and the 'bare' mesh models decompressed. I just need a way to convert the mesh into something I can actually use. I have a slight suspicion that the original model format was in fact FBX, due to the presence of 'fbm' folders still in the weapon folders. This archive only includes characters and bosses. Take your pick on which one to fool around with, I have the matching textures in the texture folder, for UV verification.
