Dead Space 2 contains both Ealayer3 audio and ADPCM audio. There's no way to detect this other than look into hex contents. For first you use Ealayer3, for second - towav.

I tried opening it first without an exa file and it said I do not have permission. I ran it as an administrator and it still said I do not have permission to open it. What's up with that?

What are you trying to open??

I edited the original message and said I managed to fix the permission problem. But when I open any exa file with the tool, it quickly flashes the CMD window, then closes it and then does nothing.

I'm trying to open these audio files from steam > common > Dead Space > global_assets > ds_assets > char_str > npc > exp_cct > exploder_unpacked > SBK and then any of the exploder_XX.exa files. Here are few examples: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/j9twd6 ... der_sounds

Oh yeah, before we end the discussion, why won't ealayer3 let me unpack some of the .exa files? For example these three: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/4n7typq5up96e/Tripod

If anyone can figure that out, that'd be amazing

I noticed someone had edited ealayer3 to rip the files that it previously could not. Here: http://forum.xentax.com/viewtopic.php?p=104766#p104766 I don't have access to that file so does anyone have an account to XenTaX forum?

Edit: well it appears that it's a bit broken and makes the output quality distorted.

I made this tool, nothing is distorted! Nothing is broken there.

So now you posted a lot of messages. Please after you clean it all, let me know, which files you can't convert, and I will explain how to convert them.

Also I can suggest to move to Dead space thread. viewtopic.php?p=4065#p4065

I personally converted ALL of Dead Space 2 sounds, including those "tripod" files, and everything is OK! No distortions.

No I mean I read from this link: http://forum.xentax.com/viewtopic.php?p=104766#p104766 that I guess you managed to make a version that can run the files that it could not previously convert but the output was distorted and broken. Eitherway, could you possibly give me the download link to the extractor you used? I'm currently using the one made back in 22.5.2011, which leaves some files un-converted and says that "This input is not in a readable format."

Did you use the ealayer3 made back in 2011 or something else? And did you manage to convert the "exploder" sounds I linked? They are from Dead Space by the way.

This is the one I use:
https://bitbucket.org/Zenchreal/ealayer3/downloads
(The 22.5.2011 one)

Alright so the files I cannot convert are the Dead Space .exa files from the global_assets folder and some of the .exa files from Dead Space 2 like those Tripod sounds and sometimes one file at the bottom of the list of the converted "00X_enemy.sbk" sounds.
